Enjoy the Show
I like to go to the movies. I always have . One of the criteria for me moving here was to make sure that the country had proper theaters. Until about 8 years ago the theaters were very outdated. Not anymore , they are comfortable and modern with great seats, stores and things to do. The famous intermissions ( usually at the highlight of the movie) are gone. Also I must admit that ordering your seats in advance, which I used to find annoying, is actually pretty cool. You don't have to rush and you can skip the almost 30 min ( no joke) of commercials ( which never change ) and previews ( ditto).
Great system unless you decide to number the front row as row #2.
I like to watch previews and got to the movies early ( saw Lion which was very good except for the first 30 min I had to read in Hebrew) and watched how row after row had to move as no one checked to see where they were sitting but just sat where they thought they were sitting which was one row off due to the mis-numbering of the rows.
Was actually funny and pathetic at the same time.
OK a few things about going to the movies in Israel:
There is no PSA before the movie asking people to turn off their cell phone or not to talk
Most of the movies are in English ( cartoons are dubbed). Most people are reading the subtitles so they don't need to hear the movie.
A+B=C hence everyone is talking. loudly
Don't bother shushing
people like to text during the movie ( or film the movie as one person was doing)
Asking someone to stop will elicit a response like " what ! does it bother you?"
most social references concerning the USA are lost so no one laughs when they should yet a surprisingly large amount laugh when they should not. This of course makes me laugh
If you can deal with this enjoy the show
