I'm Back
I know, I know. It has been a while since my last post. What can I say. No excuses. It has been a comparatively rough couple of months.
Where to begin?
May was nuts. I was in NYC and did a bunch of medical tests. I was told I had a 90% chance of having prostate cancer ( I don't have it). I was told I need an angioplasty and most likely a stent ( don't need either). Finally, my business partners told me it is time we go our separate ways. This will cause me a major financial hit. ( that turned out to be real)
Funny thing is the business stuff doesn't bother me because I don't have cancer and my heart is fine.
Well, don't they say that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger? As long as nothing is killing me, I am good.
That was pretty much my summer and then back and forth to the USA, the holidays etc.. Once I get out of a routine, like writing a blog, it is hard for me to resume.
I was ready to give it up but the few of you who actually read this wanted to hear from me , and so I am back.
Another reason I did not write was that I have little to say. My past blogs have mostly centered on my issue with the Haredi public here in Israel. Since they have been out of the government ( 5 months and counting) they have not been in the news much. A bit of complaining here and there but nothing too upsetting. As a matter of fact, our new prime minister has said that the Haredim have been wielding too much power in our society and it was time that they were stopped. Three cheers for Bennett.
What??
Did I just say that??
You bet I did.
The day after the election I told someone in shul that Naftali Bennett will be the next prime minister of the state of Israel. He answered back ' Aron, you stupid American, you don't know anything about Israeli politics. There is no way that someone with 7 seats ( now 6) will be the next PM. ' I said ' well what do I know?'
It seems no one here really likes our PM and the job he is doing. The opposition obviously hate him and since the government he formed is basically a group of people who would not give each other the time of day, even those who voted for those parties feel like they are not getting what they voted for.
I can't say that I agree. I think he is doing a bang up job.
In my family we voted for every party in the coalition with the exception of the Arab Party ( Ra'am) and Bennett.
Winners all.
For example, as I have mentioned in the past , I voted for Avigdor Lieberman who promised not to form a government with the Haredim and to try to dampen their influence if given the chance.
Now he is finance minster, besides the many good things he is doing for the economy ( like opening up parallel imports and lessening the ridiculous approval processes for everything) he is also defunding the Haredim.
When there was talk that Bennett might add one of the Haredi parties to the coalition, Lieberman made it very clear he will walk if that happens.
The truth is that when I think about it, he is one of the few people who did not have to compromise too much to join the coalition.
After four elections, I got my monies worth.
I know I have said in the past that I will write regularly but it seems I lied.
Sorry.
I will not say it again but I hope to have something to say soon
