Secretary Guterres and President Obama are Right
October 7th does need to be taken in context and they need to take the blame. Live From the War in Israel Day 40
There have been many people who have been engaging in bothsidesism when discussing the current conflict in Israel. This is defined as “A tendency to treat all policy debates as if the opposing sides present equally strong arguments or are equally valid or equally dangerous.” I think that there are many people who just don’t know the issue. A lot has been written recently about how higher education has been taken over by radicals who have been espousing antisemitism couched as anti-Zionism for the last few decades. I am not sure how much we can blame those indoctrinated with false moralities and skewed narratives , but we certainly cannot allow this to continue being the norm on college campuses.
There have been many instances explaining October 7th in the context of the larger Israel-Palestinian conflict. Most of these start with a strong condemnation of Hamas’s actions on October 7th, but then some point out that there was a reason for it. Some are more overt, and I would like to point out 2 of them because of who said them and how much news these statements made.
A few weeks ago, former President Obama spoke about the current conflict. He strongly condemned Hamas: “What Hamas did was horrific, and there’s no justification for it,” and then added “And what is also true is that the occupation and what’s happening to Palestinians is unbearable.” He then added: “But there’s a part of me that’s still saying, ‘Well, was there something else I could have done?’” I know he tried very hard to bring peace to the region. It was Obama who spent years getting Israel to make concessions, like the 10-month settlement freeze in 2010, with getting nothing in return. It was Obama who allowed UN resolution 2334 to pass, which essentially said that East Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount, was Palestinian, giving the Palestinians the understanding that they should wait until Israel will give up its holiest sites. If that was not enough, it was Obama who pushed and signed off on the JCPOA, otherwise known as the Iran nuclear deal. This brilliant deal was meant to delay Iran from making a nuclear bomb for ten years. What it never intended to do was curb Iran’s work on ballistic missiles. What it also did not try to do was stop Iran from funding terrorist organizations around the world. What it did do was release over $100 billion, which was undoubtedly used to fund those terrorist organizations, including Hamas. Perhaps instead of pointing out the unbearable occupation, he should apologize for his role in this current conflict. He should also stop thinking about what else he could have done. He has done enough.
I can spend another few blogs documenting the Obama presidency and the rise of the DEI-based curriculum that has infected all levels of education in the USA and has unleashed some of the worst antisemitism ever seen, but let's continue.
As egregious as Obama’s bothsidesism was, it is nothing compared to Secretary of the UN, Antonio Guterres’s, comments. Comments, which after he was called out on them, turned to onesideism. He said that as horrific as these attacks were “It is important to also recognize the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum.” This is mind-boggling since if any entity or organization is to blame for not only this conflict but for the continued suffering of the Palestinians, it is the UN.
I have written before about the UNWRA, which is the UN refugee organization that deals only with the Palestinians. This is in contrast to the UNHCR, which is responsible for all other refugees in the world. The UNHCR has settled and relocated millions of refugees. UNWRA has settled or relocated 0. It has kept the Palestinians perpetual refugees, and unlike any other refugees, they are generational. This happened in 1982 when UNWRA unilaterally changed the definition of a Palestinian refugee to include all descendants of Palestinians in perpetuity. UNWRA is also responsible for the education of children in Gaza, and they are doing a great job. UNWRA has known for many years that many of their teachers are supporters of terror, and some are even members of Hamas. Their textbooks are basically manuals of Jew hatred, glorifying martyrdom, and a call for never-ending violence.
We have been hearing a lot from UNWRA lately. They said at the beginning of the war that Hamas was stealing its fuel only to make an immediate retraction. They also announced on Oct 17th that Gaza had one more day of fuel, which was not the case. They also have been consistently telling everyone that Israel must follow the rules of war and international law which they define as not attacking schools, hospitals, and other UN locations. This, to reiterate how evil the Israelis are. Their cruelty knows no bounds.
Hopefully, in a few days, Israel will capture the al-Shifa hospital, which Hamas is using as a major control center and possibly to house some of the hostages. The head of the hospital, the UNWRA, and WHO have for weeks all been saying that there are no terrorists or hostages there. When Israel is proved correct, will the heads of these organizations, starting with Secretary Guterres, be brought up on war crimes? I am not joking. It would seem to me that it is completely impossible for the Head of the UN, and certainly not people working in the hospital, not to be aware of the fact that Hamas is using the hospital and the ground beneath it as a terror base. These condemnations of Israel are being made to aid and abet the terrorists. What if we find that some of the hostages were being held there? It would mean that the UN is directly complicit in a war crime. People will need to be held accountable. I am not an expert in international law, but hiding terrorists and their hostages, demanding fuel you know is going to go to terrorists, refusing over and over not to evacuate hospitals in order to protect terrorists, has to be a violation of international law and as they keep saying, international law should apply to everyone.
