Sticks and Stones

It's been a busy few weeks. Firstly, my son moved with his family to Israel. He just got out of isolation and moved in with us yesterday.

We are already babysitting.

Personally I think that was one of his main motivations for moving here. He and his wife have been interviewing for various positions in the Hi-tech field. My daughter - in - law has actually gotten pretty far in the interview process. For a final test they give you a task to perform to see if you know what you are doing. The last one took her a week. My son has also been asked to do some heavy modeling as a 'test'.

A few days ago, Haaretz , a local paper, ran a story how hi tech companies are using all these people applying for jobs to do major projects for them for free.

I have commented on the word ' frier' before. Loosely translated, it means sucker. I wrote that no one here wants to be viewed as a sucker and that people will actually be nasty to each other just to make sure they are not viewed this way ( like cutting you in line because only a sucker would wait).

Then you read a story about how hi-tech companies are taking advantage of young people first starting out and you sort of get it.

I needed to send some documents to the USA. They had a lot of time to get there so I sent them with the regular mail. I made sure we got a tracking number. The letter went out on July 27th. The tracking says that on August 12th it was sent to the USA.

It still has not arrived.

Startup nation.

I had to resend it. This time it went express mail. That means 1 -3 days which really means 7 -10 days. All for only $40. and what do you know, it got there in 8 days.

That's what I call service.

Another thing that was recently delivered is our new granddaughter, Noam Lior. ( as I mentioned a busy two weeks)

I was pleasantly surprised last Friday when I was listening to a local radio station.

A little background. In the USA , if you go to any major city you will have many choices of radio stations. There will be classic rock, top 40 , talk , news etc. Here, you have religious music , Arabic music and 'all the rest of the music'. If you listen to an 'all the rest of music station', the mix is beyond description ( also it seems that the most vile songs can be played as long as they are in English. WAP). So it was nice to hear a short commentary on the weekly Torah portion when listening to the non-religious radio station.

Nothing too heavy.

It was a pleasant shock.

Speaking of shocks. I can prove that the ancient prophesy of the in gathering of the Jews is taking place right now.

I bought a French car.

We are the proud owners of a Citroen Spacerunner which is apparently the only car in the entire world that has clasps for 3 child seats in the back seat.

That is what my wife says.

What else, besides the in-gathering, could possibly explain how someone from the USA, who was always told that French cars are the worst, end up with one.

There can be no other explanation.

Another benefit , when you drive like a dummy, everyone knows why.

As I write this we are waiting to see if the government will issue another lock-down. Israel has gone to being a country with one of the best responses to Corona to one of the worst. I will write more about that soon. I want to end with something else.

I guess that it is apparent that I have some conservative views. I describe myself as a libertarian. Which means I am somewhere in the middle but firmly believe that people should have the ability to better themselves without the interference of the government. It also means that people should be responsible for their actions. Recently a friend of mine hung up on me because I made a comment about the upcoming USA election. This is the same friend who forbade anyone to say the T word anywhere near her. I respected that but the truth is I WON'T ANYMORE.

I majored in political science. I love politics and talking about politics. My liberal friends try to avoid talking to me about politics because most of them never really have any answers to what I am saying. A friend of mine once said that illegal immigration should be decriminalized. I said 'so you believe in open boarders'? She said no, of course not.

This is typical.

The only person who really tries, is my son in law. He doesn't get anywhere but he tries and more importantly is willing to listen.

I don't get anywhere with him either.

I am done with people who can't hear things because it makes them feel unsafe. I am done with others who think they are morally superior , inflicting their views on me, but consider mine to be , racist, sexist, old fashioned etc.

I can no longer stand the reek of this false moral superiority.

Especially those who blindly follow the party that created the KKK and has keep minorities as a permanent underclass for the last 50 + years. ( happy to discuss with anyone who actually doesn't know the history of the democratic party)

You hate the current president, fine hate him .

He is an ass.

It doesn't mean that the rest of us who support sensible policies are wrong and if you were able to get off of your high horse and listen for one second what the other side has to say , maybe you could see that.

One of my liberal friends was shocked that I would support Trump because all the Neo Nazis support him. After pointing out that I don't support him but do support the libertarian views and policies which are being implemented I asked what is the difference between the far right and far left. I was told it is not the same at all.

Really??

Which side has a problem with people who control everything and don't pay their fair share of taxes.

Hard to answer as it is both.

Hate Blacks and Jews you are a Nazi.

Hate the 1%, white males, Israel, etc. you are a hero.

So to those of my friends who are always correct in their outlook , know that I still love you.

I just don't want to talk to you anymore until there comes a time when people our age can have a conversation and not act like children.
