With great power comes great responsiblity
now that I have almost 50 of you getting this I must address the responsibility that one has when they decide to share their therapy sessions with friends family and a few strangers. I received two comments off line which I must address. The first was from a very close friend who just said be careful about Lashon Hara. This was after I just posted and used someones name in an angry sarcastic way ( the best kind). I took it down and then found out I had used the wrong name.
Point Taken
A big thank you to my good friend who is always aiming me towards the right path.
The second came from a good friend who misunderstood what it is I am saying and trying to do with this blog. He wrote the following: "Read what I could ( I only found 2 entries) and from what I read, mirrors my sons feelings. He originally said he'd stay in Israel for a year after the army to see if he could make Aliya, now pretty sure he won't.Like you, I don't have much patience either, and my fuse continues to contract as I age. My dream of making Aliya in the next 10 years is looking more like just a dream based on what you and he are experiencing..sigh"
This really shook me as I was so misunderstood. So I want to add some of the other things that have happened to us since we have been here:
The first week we were here my wife told everyone that we made aliyah and asked them to sing. Most did including the Avis guy at the airport
Our neighbors in shul gave us a very big welcome ( several aliyot for me) and clearly see us as true community members for the first time
We went to visit our daughter on kibbutz in Beit Shean for a shabbat and got a public shout out on 3 separate occasions
Countless times when we mention we made aliyah from Manhattan people have told us how happy they are to know that there are people like us willing to do that.
We went to the post office today and although we were told it would take an hour it only took 20 min.
W e went to the movies again. it was quite and the people using their cellphones lowered the brightness as to disturb us less ( See http://www.aaronmenche.com/enjoy-the-show/)
I did not mention these things before because it sounds a bit like bragging. I am also fully aware that making aliyah via business class to Herzliyah is not a difficult thing. That is why I am not an Aliyah preacher. I am blessed and know it. That said I want it make clear that it is the fulfillment of a life long dream and I could not be happier. If it sounds like I am complaining it is because that is one of the things I do professionally. Ask my wife and kids ( friends and business partners and just about anyone who knows me)
I want to quote someone who observed the land a long time ago טוֹבָה הָאָרֶץ, מְאֹד מְאֹד. it is an exceeding good land.
and although I said I would not get preachy the next thing he said was
אִם-חָפֵץ בָּנוּ, יְהוָה--וְהֵבִיא אֹתָנוּ אֶל-הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת, וּנְתָנָהּ לָנוּ. If the LORD delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it unto us.
That is all of us. hope to see you soon
