You Don't Say
I really do plan to posting more often, but for some reason I can not always find the time. That is really just an excuse. The truth is I don't have much to say. OK, some of you are rolling with hearty belly laughs at that last statement , but for the most part, it is true. Yesterday was the third anniversary of our Aliyah. Three years ago, everything was new, exciting , interesting, frustrating... Now I am just in the routine of living here. Get up , read the news ( Guess what, Iran wants to destroy us) shower, go to Shul ( Guess what, many of the people who have no interest in finding a job do have an interest in my money) , answer emails and do work. At some point the ADD kicks in so instead of working for an hour or so , I am on the computer for 6. What have I accomplished? Not much. But I may have found another 3rd cousin twice removed on My Heritage so it was worth it.
When I got here I wrote about the daily grind and nothing new there. We are still waiting for government approvals for my daughters business. Every time we get one we find we need two more.
What Fun.
New Restaurants.
I found one though I wouldn't call it a restaurant. It is called Bodega and it is in Tel Aviv. It is one of many new burger places but this one has kosher bacon cheese burgers.
I tried it.
Seems I wasn't missing much by never having one before. I must admit the Chile dog was good but not worth a special trip. I also discovered a new web site ( new for me, it has been around a while ) called 10bis ( http://www.10bis.co.il )It is like post-mates. They deliver from many restaurants and not only from Herzliyah. We can also get food from places like Ranana and Ramat Hashron. It was very cool to use
The first week.
Most of the places have low ratings. I wonder if this is because the places are bad or the people like to complain a lot.
Hmmm, which can it be. ( I suggest you watch the South Park episode on yelp for my thoughts)
I also like talking about politics. I must admit I got the deal of the century. Most Israeli's have to wait at least 10 years to vote for a new government 3 times but I will get to do it in three years.
So who will I vote for this time?
The same person as last time.
This is what everyone else is planning to do as well.
Result??
Fourth Election.
What a bargain.
Another big topic here is the growing incidence of antisemitism in the USA. I actually saw an uptick personally about 5 years ago ( two incidences in one year) and I am not shocked. I am also not surprised that in the New York area, it is primarily coming from the African American community. I will not comment on this so as not to piss off some of my more sensitive reader. At least the leaders of this community are recognizing this phenomenon and working to address it.
It is funny to hear the Brits ask me why Jews in the USA don't leave and come to Israel. I guess they feel becauseĀ Corbin lost all is OK in England and no longer a problem. The truth is if you ask them if they think that anti-semitism was a major factor in Corbin's loss, most recognize that it wasn't. It is not that all of a sudden the Brits like their Jews, they just did not want a far left agenda.
I am rambling.
I feel like a friend you haven't spoken to who doesn't have much to say.
What else?
The weather here is great. It is January 3rd and no coat needed outside in the afternoon. We are getting a lot of rain, but we pray for that so who am I to complain.
The new car is nice . It got all banged up the third time I took it out.
The person did not leave a note.
Isn't it cute that I thought that might actually happen. See three years here and the optimism has not been beaten out of me.
I call that a successful aliyah.
It is , as always , my intention to write more but now that you know all the busy things I am up to , perhaps you can forgive me.
